Traditional Foliate Cut Glass Bell Jar Lantern

Traditional Foliate Cut Glass Bell Jar Lantern. Bell jar lanterns first reached popularity in colonial India and due to their lingering popularity, production has continued to the present. The glass disk at the top was originally to catch smoke from candles or oil, and in the electric era has remained as a purely decorative element. This lantern is a relatively new reproduction. Made from delicately blown glass, frosted and cut in a foliate pattern. The glass is suspended by three beak like hooks on an ornate ring. The bottom of the lantern is finished with a bronze finial. It has a three light cluster in the center. Metals are finished in an antique bronze. Complete with canopy and hanging hardware.
