SOLD P372 Mid 20th Century Amethyst Melon Shaped Bell Jar
Bell jar lanterns first reached popularity in colonial India and due to their lingering popularity, production has continued to the present. The glass disk at the top was originally to catch smoke from candles or oil, and in the electric era has remained as a purely decorative element. This lantern is a relatively new reproduction. Made from delicately blown amethyst glass in a rounded onion shape and a clear smoke bell. The glass is suspended by three beak like hooks on an ornate ring. The bottom of the lantern is finished with a bronze finial. It has a three light cluster in the center. Metals are finished in a blackened bronze. Complete with canopy and hanging hardware. bottom glass is 11.5″ tall.
