SOLD Flush Onion Shaped Glass Bell Jar Lantern

Bell jar lanterns first reached popularity in colonial India and due to their lingering popularity, production has continued to the present. Made from delicately blown clear glass with an engraved wheat pattern. The Glass is suspended by three beak-like hooks on an ornate brass band. The bottom of the lantern is finished with a stamped brass finial with the original candle holder still intact. This fixture has been adapted for low ceilings, forgoing the usual glass smoke bell to instead hang directly from the ceiling canopy with a three light cluster. Bell Jar glass dates from the late 19th Century and the brass flush mount fixture was added later when the fixture was electrified. Metals are finished in antique brass. Glass is in very good antique condition, with irregularities and bubbles from the original glass blowing process. Canopy has a diameter of 7.5” Three lights, 65 Watt max, candelabra size bulbs. Cleaned and rewired. Complete and ready to install, US 120V hardwired. We have two of these lanterns, the glass and fixture elements match, but the design of the stamped metal ring and bottom finials are a little different.
